Libby Mae Sharratt

Libby Mae Sharratt was born on 26/04/2013 at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. Following her birth by C-section, she experienced difficulty breathing and was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Unit, where she was placed on 100% intensive care.

Over the next few days, Libby underwent several tests and scans, which revealed a heart condition. Her medication and treatment were adjusted accordingly, and her condition appeared to improve. She woke up, we were able to hold her, look into her beautiful eyes, and feel her tiny fingers wrap around ours.

On 02/05/2013, Libby was transferred to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Further scans revealed that the vein connecting her heart to her left lung had not developed. We were told she would never be able to breathe on her own and, heartbreakingly, that nothing more could be done to save her.

Libby passed away peacefully in our arms on 09/05/2013, at just two weeks old.

Our hearts were broken, and our world was shattered by the loss of our beautiful daughter.

We will forever be grateful to the incredible staff at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. Without their swift actions and exceptional care, we believe we may not have had even a single day with our little girl, let alone the two precious weeks we were lucky enough to share with her.
